5 reasons I love my cloud desktop

By Naomi Dolin-Aubertin

I have a confession to make; I am a cloud desktop convert. I honestly can't imagine how I worked without the cloud before. Let me tell you five reasons why:

  • Ease of use
Our WebTop cloud workspace is easy. When I started working with DirectNetworks, I think I received two pag
es of printed documentation on how to use WebTop. Two pages. That's all I needed. By contrast, other database and CRM software takes days of training and even longer to truly feel comfortable with.
  • Single sign-on
The single sign-on aspect of WebTop ties in with the ease of use. Instead of logging into many different applications with many different usernames and passwords, all I have to do is sign in to one webpage and I have access to my entire desktop: email, shared drive, applications, you name it.
  • Mobile and BYO device access
I can access my cloud work space from almost any device through an internet connection. This brings an incredible amount of freedom. It means I am not tied to a specific computer, which is great if something crashes (this hasn't happened to me while working here, but I've had plenty of unproductive hours/days in the past tied to this). I also appreciate it on the rare days I need to email in sick and can access my work email quickly.

  • Collaboration
Working through WebTop, everything gets saved to the cloud. Therefore, every employee has access to the documents and files used throughout the company. It makes it very easy to collaborate on projects or access information without the hassle of finding who has what saved on their local drives and asking them to send it to you.
  • Customization
I am one of those people who really like to customize a space, whether digital or physical. WebTop features the ability to create a custom WebTop apart from the default screen. I display only my favorite apps for
easier access, an inbox preview, a weather app, and the birthday widget. I like that WebTop gives me the ability to clean out anything I don't want to see. As an aside to this, I also really love WebTop's clean, aesthetic design. There are a host of business benefits and features to a cloud desktop, of course, but they don't figure into my end user perspective.
