Why I Love Working in IT

By Katie Zastrow

In general, I am not a tech savvy individual. Of course I can navigate my way around a computer, but I am certainly no engineer. As you can imagine I was relatively surprised to find myself hired by an IT company. I was even more surprised to find myself loving it. I quickly learned that the world of IT is one of people and technology working in sync to reach goals and better lives. To me, that's the most important part.

Working for an IT company, even though I am not in a technical position, has proven to be very rewarding. Technology is the center of the modern world. Almost everything we do is run by machines. In many ways, technology can improve peoples' lives and streamline their work. However, we all know the frustration of a broken computer, jammed printer or failed upload. When technology fails it begins to do exactly the opposite of it's intended purpose- it makes life harder. Working in the technology support industry means I get to be a part of the solution. I get to be a part of what makes someone's day better.

I've worked in the customer service industry as long as I've been employed. Of all of my other job roles and titles, IT has been the one that effects the customer the most. Providing reliable support to our customers ensures that their daily lives and responsibilities are able to be carried out without interruption. The work that I do here makes someone's life a bit easier. I didn't view technology in this way until starting my role here at DirectNetworks. The world of IT has opened my eyes to the wonderful things that technology is doing in the lives of so many individuals.

This is the first in a series of guest posts we are working to bring you from different people at DirectNetworks. Want to see more or a different perspective? Leave a comment below.
